Open Hands Rainbow House

               The Colours of the Rainbow

In April we started The Rainbow House project. In this newsletter I share with you how the children are finding it.
The children who come to The Rainbow House have been born into poverty and neglect. They don’t have the privileges most children experience. They are accustomed to living in dirty shacks with no sanitation. They have experienced hunger and neglect. They survive freezing winters. They experience discrimination. Some experience abuse.

These children have become my champions. Against all the odds they shine. They are so full of life! When I see them at The Rainbow House I feel so proud of them. They are the most wonderful children. The Rainbow House is a place of excitement and discovery for them. They are trembling with excitement when they wash their hands under a running tap. Sitting around a table and eating has become a wonderful social experience that can last up to two hours. They eat, they play, they learn and they laugh. It moves me so much to see them happy. It means so much. We want them to succeed – against all the odds! They are the generation that will break the poverty spell that has hung over their families for hundreds of years.

The Rainbow House is a healing place for them. They are loved and accepted. They are taught with patience and care. They are part of the Open Hands family.

The Rainbow House works like this: Each day of the week children from impoverished families come either for the morning or afternoon. Children are washed and can shower. We always have spare, clean clothes for them to change into. They eat healthy meals together. They play and they learn for school. They don’t own toys so doing activities like finger painting and building train tracks is a mind blowing experience. The Rainbow House offers these children normality.

We now have 24 children coming to The Rainbow House groups. Many more are already on a waiting list. We do not have the funds to help more children and we are in urgent need to find sponsors to sustain this project. Please consider giving monthly or as a one off donation, we promise it will make a huge difference.
