Supporting Neglected & Disadvantaged Children in Romania

Malina

Another year has gone by and Open Hands has continued to bring love, hope and change to impoverished children. With your support we are breaking poverty circles and transforming the lives of the most destitute children of Romania.

maria1Maria is 14 years old and from Portugal. In her summer holidays Maria and her friends decided to do something beautiful for Open Hands. Here Maria shares why she decided to help children in Romania and how she and her friends managed to raise 500 euros for the charity. It is a beautiful thing when children help other children in need and set an example on how to make a difference.

newplay7We now have a new playground in the garden of The Rainbow House. We were able to buy a playground with a swing set which has a large slide and climbing rope. We also bought two pick-nick tables, a little slide and swing for the smaller ones, two football goals, a sandpit with lots of toys and two sun umbrellas.

istvan10Just over one year ago we started a new project called The Rainbow House. The children who attend The Rainbow House groups come from homes with no running water and had no sense of cleanliness or hygiene. Most of them had never experienced a bath or shower and never had their teeth brushed or their nails cut. At home in the slum they had to scavenge for food and endure high levels of deprivation in a dangerous community. The children did not know what it meant to sit and eat a meal around a table. They were feral children with no structure, who had not learnt how to speak nicely and play safely with others. Seeing these children without the love and care they so desperately need spurred us on to create a safe haven for them.
